After this why would you want to do business with Verizon?
This is really painful to hear. It seems that Verizon does not know the difference between dollars and cents. Can you imagine what customers all throughout the country who use Verizon Wireless must be getting charged without even knowing it? There is a difference between $0.002 and 0.002 cents. I understand that it’s easy to get confused but you would expect Verizon to know the rates they are charging people. They quoted the customer at cents then charged him at the dollar rate.
From a comment on the post:
Oh… I think I just figured it out. The problem isn’t the math; it’s the symbol. They see “$0.002″ and say, “0.002 cents.” Ask them what symbol is on the left hand side of the number — and when it looks like an “S”, or take them through the sequence from $0.20 to $0.002 without letting them switch (”if $0.02 is two cents, how can $0.002 be 0.002 cents?”)
Or better, just take it to writing. There’s clearly plenty of record on file that you were quoted two cents. Just tell them (in writing) that you’re paying based on that rate, and eventually it’ll get in front of someone who doesn’t earn their salary by placating you until you pay up.
Verizon is just too sad. Indeed they want this person to pay at the dollar rate which is a difference of about 71 dollars to 71 cents! There is absolutely no way he should pay at the dollar rate. He could even take them to court over this. Maybe Verizon will do a better job next time of knowing exactly what they are quoting people at. If it’s dollars fine, but they quoted him at cents.
Verizon makes no sense…
