Someone I know who is happy Eli Lilly is getting their comeupance

Now that the news of evil Big Pharma corporatist drug maker Eli Lilly has been hurting the American people with their drug Zyprexa has hit the mainstream media. I know of someone who has been fighting to get the news out about Zyprexa for years now, who should feel a little satisfaction. Though his fight is far from over at least he can take some solace in knowing this corporation has taken a hit where it matters, their stock price. There is now a chink in their armor.

Who is this person?

My name is Daniel Haszard from Bangor Maine personal website I work as a counter-cult educator.

I was prescribed Zyprexa from 1996 until 2000.
In early 2000 I was shocked to have an A1C test result of 13.9 (normal is 4-6) I have no history of Diabetes in my family. In Dec 2005 I made first discovery of the Zyprexa Diabetes link. This website documents my efforts to seek recovery and compensation from the Eli Lilly drug company for causing my diabetes. It would be in their best interest to settle with me straight-away.

I did not make legal discovery until Dec 2005 when I saw a Television advertisement, only then did I make my Zyprexa/diabetes connection and was shocked. A special hardship in my case is an ileostomy from long-standing ulcerative colitis, this prevents me from eating a high fiber diet to control my blood sugar and adds to the cost my diabetes management.

I first read his story last year when he commented on a previous incarnation of my weblog on blogspot about Eli Lilly. If there’s one thing I’ve noticed about Mr. Haszard is that he is tenacious when it comes to fighting Eli Lilly. He’s all over the Internet whenever someone even mentions the corporation’s name. If I were a reporter for the NY Times I’d be trying to get a hold of him right now to hear his story. What Eli Lilly has done is shameful and cannot be forgiven; a pox on the house of Eli Lilly. The stock is being downgraded and I hope the corporation suffers tremendous financial damage as a result. Big Pharma needs to be handcuffed and regulated, they are all out of control. If the Bush administration’s FDA and/or Justice Department won’t do it, then the state attorneys general must step in.

  1. I agree that Dan has been tenacious in going after Eli Lilly. One service he provided was a victims' site for many of the 8000 plaintiffs involved in the giant class action against Lilly. Many of the victims have mental illness….and now they have diabetes….and the stress of the situation has been very hard. There has been no other website for these victims.

I admire Dan's efforts. My son Rob died of profound hyperglycemia in 2002 having gained one hundred pounds on Zyprexa. He was on it for two years, having done fine on lithium for many years before that.

I don't know how Danny feels, but I feel this is a criminal case. If Enron execs were sent to jail for stealing people's life savings, then Lilly's execs should go to prison for stealing people's lives, leaving shattered families behind.

  2. Hey,here I am right now & thank you for the kind words!

    My latest commentary.

    Eli Lilly Zyprexa scandal

Zyprexa off label promotion scandal is all over the news now.

Lilly drug reps are alleged to have called their marketing ploy,"Viva zyprexa".

Eli Lilly zyprexa cost me over $250.00 a month supply out of my own pocket X 4 years and has up to ten times the risk (over non users) of causing diabetes and severe weight gain.

Zyprexa which is only FDA approved for schizophrenia (.5-1% of pop) and some bipolar (2% pop) and then an even smaller percentage of theses two groups.

So how does Zyprexa get to be the 7th largest drug sale in the world?

Eli Lilly is in deep trouble for using their drug reps to 'encourage' doctors to write zyprexa for non-FDA approved 'off label' uses.

The drug causes increased diabetes risk, and medicare picks up all the expensive fallout. There are now 7 states (and counting) going after Lilly for fraud and restitution.

Only 9 percent of adult Americans think the pharmaceutical industry can be trusted right around the same rating as big tobacco.
