Ad Critque : Radio Shack

without comments

So I happened to be on a website where this ad for RadioShack was present. From reading about marketing and consumerism I can’t help but view ads with a critical eye now. Here it appears that RadioShack wants to associate itself with the great moments of ones life like marriage. So basically when you think of RadioShack or see the logo you’ll think about them being there for you in those crucial moments. The ad is actually for a memory card but that’s besides the point. It’s not about the product it’s about the feeling. They’re trying to sell you on the feeling. RadioShack is the “friend” that allows you to “Do Stuff”.

If I were you and you really needed a memory card for your digital camera I’d look for the best value and not buy into this at all. Futhermore, support an independent like Small Dog Electronics (they advertise on Thom Hartmann’s radio program) Alas, this is my initial amateur attempt at analyzing the consumerist and corporatist leviathan, but hopefully I’ll get better as I go.
