Dear, American Medical Associaton: Stuff this turkey up your backsides, please. Thank You.
When medical residents work 30-hour shifts, should they be guaranteed a five-hour nap? The Institute of Medicine thinks so, but the AMA disagrees. At its recent meeting, the AMA adopted a new policy to oppose the guaranteed sleep time. Mandatory naps could “have significant unintended consequences for continuity of patient care and safety, as well as being difficult and expensive to implement and monitor,” the AMA’s recommendations say.

I think the American Medical Association deserves to endure some of what another feckless organization, the US Chamber of Commerce is going through. That is, current members of the AMA should leave in droves. These are the same people who opposed Medicare. This position they are taking is absolutely Dickensian.
