Why would a health group take money from Coca-Cola?

The American Academy of Family Physicians has prompted outcry and lost members over its new six-figure alliance with the Coca-Cola Co. The deal will fund educational materials about soft drinks for the academy’s consumer health and wellness Web site, http://www.FamilyDoctor.org.

Of course the CEO of this organization is saying that the money from Coke will have no influence on their content. That’s like saying a congressional member who takes money from health insurance corporations is not going to be influenced when it comes to healthcare policy.

Hey Nestle, Coke and Pepsi your water bottling days are numbered

Restaurants are shunning bottled water for tap water. How long before we see this trend spread?

The Italian restaurant backed by celebrities Mario Batali and Joseph Bastianich is one of several shunning bottled water, along with the city of San Francisco and New York state.

"The argument for local water is compelling and obvious," said Bastianich, who is phasing out bottled water across his restaurant empire, which stretches to Los Angeles.

"It's about transportation, packaging, the absurdity of moving water all over the world," he said.

They’ve agreed to pay 137.5 million to shareholders in a settlement. Basically the shareholders claimed that Coke was artificially inflating sales to boost it’s stock price. If that’s not your basic Enron-style corporate corruption I don’t know what is. Makes you wonder how other beverage companies are keeping their books.
