Tetley Tea and the Tata Group more terrorizing than US tea baggers
A report commissioned by the IUF and released today details extensive human rights violations at the Tata-controlled Powai Tea Estate in Assam, India. In Cold Blood: Death By Poison, Death By Bullets examines the death in May this year of 25 year-old Powai worker Gopal Tanti, who collapsed at work while spraying pesticides. Mr Tanti was denied medical treatment and left to die in the field.
The Tata Group shows its true colors. They’re starting to look more like China’s Foxconn if you ask me.
The evil of the TATA Group
They are like the Haliburton, BP or Wal-Mart of India.
An international IUF fact-finding team has been denied access to an Assam plantation to investigate the recent deaths of three workers. The plantation is owned by Amalgamated Plantations in which Tata Global Beverages is the major shareholder. The 930 hectare Powai estate has one of the world’s largest tea-processing factories and employs some 1,800 permanent and 1,200 temporary workers. Tata is already under fire for its brutal attacks on tea workers and their rights in West Bengal.
Tata Group and Tetley Tea are crazier than the tea party or the madhatter
Unbelievable. I will never drink Tetley tea so long as the Tata Group owns it.
Leaders of a West Bengal tea plantation workers’ protest last year against the abusive treatment of a pregnant 22 year-old tea garden worker could face prison sentences of up to 7 years, if India’s powerful Tata Group has its way. Tata is lashing out against nearly 1,000 tea plantation workers and their families living and working on the Nowera Nuddy Tea Estate in West Bengal, India. In the latest developoment, arrest warrants have been issued for 12 workers on the estate – including the woman whose abusive treatment sparked the protests leading to a crushing 4-month lockout last year when she was refused maternity leave and forced to pluck tea while 8 months pregnant. Tata’s wholly-owned Tetley Tea, the second largest global tea brand, sources tea from the company which operates the Nowera Nuddy Tea Estate, Amalgamated Plantations Private Limited. And Amalgamated is majority owned by…Tata.
The Tata Group is acting like spoiled children.
