1,300 Chinese Children Near Smelter Suffer Lead Poisoning

without comments

In the race to the bottom that we’re still in. Jobs are sent to China where there is no regulation, safety or decent wages. When this sort of trade policy is condoned, this is what the outcome will be.

More than 1,300 children have been poisoned by a manganese factory in central China, the state media reported today, amid growing fears about the prevalence of heavy metal pollution nationwide.

Besides the Chinese government the United States Chamber of Commerce and others are also responsible for promoting trade policies that send work to the unsafe and unregulated market that is China. Indeed even when China tried to protect its workers somewhat by giving labor unions more power and protecting workers’ rights, the Chamber of Evil was heavily against it.

It turns out the CSB isn’t that afraid of Bayer CropScience?

Someone pointed out to me this evening the the US Chemical Safety Board is going to hold that meeting on Bayer CropScience after all. They were going to originally do this meeting on March 19th but held off due to pressure from the corporation.

The U.S. Chemical Safety Board (CSB) today announced that it will be holding a public meeting on April 23, 2009, in Institute, West Virginia, to present preliminary findings from its investigation of the August 28, 2008, chemical processing tank explosion at Bayer CropScience which fatally injured two workers.

Like I said in my previous post BCS had the audacity to try and tell a government entity to not discuss a tragic outcome that they are responsible for.

Why is the U.S. Chemical Safety Board afraid of Bayer CropScience?

without comments

Honestly, this is troubiling to hear. When the government feels pressure from a corporation not to do something we all loose.

Under pressure from Bayer CropScience, the U.S. Chemical Safety Board has canceled a public meeting where it planned to brief Kanawha Valley residents on its investigation of the August explosion that killed two Institute plant workers.

Board members had scheduled the meeting for March 19, and intended to discuss concerns about a methyl isocyanate tank located near the site of the deadly blast.

So Bayer CropScience is basically responsible for the death of two workers and they now have the audacity to have lawyers tell the board not to discuss this in public. I assume they don’t want their image further tarnished. Well guess what? If the Charleston Gazette and people like Corp Watch carry the news your reputation still stands to rightfully suffer and diminish.
